LG GW990 Rocks the the Mobile World with ATOM CPU of Unknown Speed « Celluloco.com Official Blogger

The LG

GW990 was the star of the company keynote speech at CES this year. The full-touch device makes a brave attempt at resurrecting the MID class of devices by introducing specs well beyond the reach of any contemporary smartphone.

The LG GW990 is built around a 4.8″ display with a resolution of 1020 x 480 and packs an 45nm Atom-core Pineview CPU of unknown clock speed. The high network data transfer rates are assured by 7.2Mbps HSDPA and 5.76Mbps HSUPA.

We had our doubts if it’s a phone at all, but LG officially called it “a smartphone” so we think, that should be clear now.

LG GW990 also offers a 5 megapixel camera, HD video and GPS. The operating system for this new powerhouse is a skinned version of the Linux-based Moblin OS, which looks virtually identical to the LG proprietary S-class UI.

An extra effort has been done to create a handset that is really power-efficient, consuming 10 times less electricity than last year’s Atom chipsets. That should help the 1850 mAh battery last for quite a while even with a screen of this caliber.

LG Announces their Second Droid : Meet GT540 Swift « Celluloco.com Official Blogger

GT540 Swift. This is LG’s second smartphone based on Android (after the GW620) but apart from that it’s just another phone born to feed up the social networking

service mania.

The nice rounded design of LG GT540 (image source)

The Swift rounded design seems kinda inspired by Sony Ericsson’s W595 but fortunately LG’s newborn looks way better (especially its textured ivory-like back). As seen on the images above there will be various color versions of the GT540 available. The phone front is taken by the 320 x 480 pixel resistive touchscreen while on the back there is a 3-megapixel autofocus camera.

The Android UI on the GT540 seems a vanilla one save for the four S-Class-like buttons at the bottom. When it comes to the social networking part, the GT540 has a dedicated SNS Manager to take care of Facebook, Twitter, and Bebo.

A closer look at the GT540 UI

The LG GT540 supports 3G with HSDPA as well as Wi-Fi and Bluetoth. It will have an integrated GPS receiver

and will carry along all the Google mobile services you can expect from any Android smartphone. So, you’ll have access to Google Maps, Gmail, YouTube, etc.

The smartphone packs native support for DivX and WMV video files and will have a Motion UI player (don’t really know what that is) and a standard 3.5mm audio jack. The microSD card slot is ready to accommodate cards with up to 32GB of capacity.

More Exclusive Shots of Amazing Sony Ericsson XPERIA X10 Mini (aka Robyn) « Celluloco.com Official Blogger

The scandalous Sony Ericsson

Robyn a.k.a. XPERIA X10 Mini joins us for another live photo session. The new leaked images add the iPhone

to the cast and now you can see how really small the Robyn is.

From what we have seen so far we can’t really say 100% isn’t some cheap Chinese dual-SIM knock-off. But the X10 Mini (our unofficial name for it) seems credible for now, which is the reason we keep following its steps.

HTC Nexus One (Google Phone) will arrive Vodafone very soon! « Celluloco.com Official Blogger

The first Google phone is already shipping SIM-free to USA, UK, Hong Kong and Singapore, but still there is no carrier to offer it subsidized outside the US. Well, Vodafone will be stepping up even sooner than expected and they’ve just posted a FAQ section on the Nexus One.

For the time being, no matter which country you order from, all phones get shipped from the US. So ordering one from the UK right now will cost you the base price of 529 US dollars plus 30 US dollars DHL shipping plus 20 US dollars for an optional UK power adapter. And finally you’ll have to shell out 17.5% VAT on top of all that. So even if you opt out of the power adapter, you’re still looking at a bare minimum of 656 US dollars (410 GBP or 450 euro).

So it’s no wonder Vodafone are getting quite a pressure from users to get those phones subsidized in the UK. As we reported in our Nexus One scoop the other day, Google announced Vodafone UK will be getting the phone in March 2010. But a Vodefone spokesperson went ahead yesterday and said it will only going to be “a few short weeks” before they get it.

Due to the increased interest Vodafone has even published a Nexus One FAQ section that can be found here.

The FAQ makes it clear that even when the Google phones finally gets to the UK, it will be only sold through google.com/phone as in the rest of the world.

There is no word on the exact date, or even on the tariff plans, but we supposed they will be close to those for the iPhone. Be sure we’ll keep you informed.

HTC Smart Showcases as the First Smartphone on the BREW Platform « Celluloco.com Official Blogger

HTC have just added another name to their smarphone lineup. The HTC Smart is their first GSM handset

to run on the Brew platform but judging from its specs, you shouldn’t expect a best debut award. This is the HTC handset with the most modest specs sheet currently available so it should be more of a mass-market touchscreen than a full-featured smartphone.

HTC Smart (previously leaked as HTC Touch.B) has the company’s proprietary Sense UI preinstalled on top of the Brew platform and will run on a 300 MHz CPU. The RAM memory is 256 MB, while the display measures 2.8″ in diagonal and sports QVGA resolution.

The good news is that HTC Smart comes with quad-band GSM/GPRS/EDGE support to make it capable of worldwide roaming and packs 3G with 3.6 Mbps HSDPA

. It also sports Bluetooth and USB connectivity and a 3.5mm audio jack. The built-in fixed-focus camera is capable of producing 3 MP images and there is a microSD card

slot onboard.

There is no information about the planned availability or the pricing of the HTC Smart just yet but it should be rather easy on the wallet.

We are just wondering what is HTC doing reviving Brew platform. It’s not like there aren’t enough mobile platforms out there and we don’t think introducing another one to the mass market is exactly what the world needed right now. But what d we know – Samsung are yet to show their Bada OS.

For now the only additional info we have about the Nokia Mystic is that it has a 5-megapixel camera with LED flash. Nokia should officially announce the Mystic at CES, which starts today and ends on Sunday.

General Mobile Cosmos is the new kid on the Android Block « Celluloco.com Official Blogger

Android is an open platform and that makes it easier for new manufacturers to produce an Android-powered handset. Take General Mobile for instance and their Cosmos phone. They even made their own Android market, dubbed Storeoid.

In fact, General Mobile will be releasing four new Android phones at the upcoming MWC 2010 in February, the General Mobile Cosmos is just a sample of things to come. Here are the basic specs:

General Mobile Cosmos at a glance

  • General: GSM 850/900/1800/1900 MHz, UMTS 900/1900/2100 MHz HSDPA
  • Form factor: touchscreen bar
  • Dimensions: 112 x 56.5 x 14.9 mm, 150g
  • Display: 3.2″ 256K color capacitive TFT LCD

touchscreen of HVGA resolution (320 x 480 pixels)

  • OS: Android 2.0
  • Memory: 256 MB internal memory, 128 MB RAM, microSD card

    slot (up to 16GB)

  • CPU: Marvell PXA935 624MHz processor
  • Camera: 5 megapixel

    autofocus camera

  • Connectivity: Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 2.0 with A2DP, standard miniUSB port, GPS receiver

  • Misc: Accelerometer for screen auto rotate, FM radio, digital compass
  • Battery: 1500mAh Li-Ion battery

It actually sounds pretty good on paper but the looks might be a bit more difficult to swallow. Here are the photos of the General Mobile Cosmos that we have. The little voice in our heads that says “Chinese knockoff” is quite insistent. The Cosmos is an original phone of course, but we just couldn’t shake the feeling.

As for the Storeoid (not Steroid) alternative app store we have some screenshots. Unfortunately, we don’t know if the Storeoid app store is connected to the Android Marketplace and if the General Mobile Cosmos can access the applications uploaded to the Market. If it can’t and each app in Storeoid has to be uploaded separately, then we have the feeling that Storeoid will be sparsely populated, which will be a major downfall.

More info on the General Mobile Cosmos and it’s three other Android-powered compatriots will be available at the MWC 2010. A previous Android phone by General Mobile (a dual SIM no less) is on sale through Amazon

in the USA and Turkey, so we expect the situation with the Cosmos to be largely the same.
